As part of *Blue42; a safety initiative I have been developing, my research lead me to one irrefutable conclusion. We as a community have to choose to stand. Many of us, our friends, family members, coworkers, or neighbours fail to allow our voices to be heard.

During incidents, situations, or circumstances we fail to stand up and say "NO". We have given into fear, the fear of reprisals, retaliation and payback. Face it,we as a community fail to protect the many people in our midsts who do choose to stand up for what is right. We fail them and in so doing we fail, our community and ourselves.

Language is also apart of our failure. we fail to recognize the "roots of crime", is often found in what, or how we choose to speak. We allow words like rat, snitch, fink, informant, and tattletale, to shame us into silence.

In finding the roots of these words we, see these words are most often use by individuals who have committed some offense against an individual or our community as a whole. These individuals in an effort to protect themselves, then flip the switch on us, telling us if we hold them accountable, then we are wrong, because who are we to judge!

Well there is lots of judgment to go around, as with the blame. We have only ourselves to blame, as we are only as secure, strong, brave, courageous, safe, empowered as our weakest link.

We can be part of the solution, part of the problem or in between. This said if you are not part of the solution aren't you really apart of the problem?

There really is no in between. When we choose to stand up against those among us, yes some of our closest friends, and family who choose to do wrong, we will then move towards a more secure community.

We must also hold government accountable for making decisions which reflect the will of the people. And sadly i in my humble opinion believe, this means, a more comprehensive criminal justice system.
